Outstanding Age Competitions
* "Competition age" is the student's age on September 1 of the competition year.
OUTSTANDING SOLO ~ Students aged 5-18 will compete with students their own *age, in groups no larger than 8, for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies. Each student performs one piece, of their own choice, from memory. There is no required repertoire list for this event. All three finalists perform on either the Junior Honors Recital or the Senior Honors Recital. Rankings of finalists are announced at the end of the recital and trophies are awarded.

OUTSTANDING DUET ~ Duets may compete as 2 performers aged 5-18, 2 performers who are both over age 18, or as a duet made up of one student under age 19 and the other over 18. Duets will compete by the age of the older student under the age of 18, e.g., a duet team of a 6 year-old and an 8 year-old shall compete as Age 8 Duet. Teams will be grouped within 3 ages, e.g., Duets Ages 6-8 could be one competition group. There is no repertoire list and no memory requirement. Duet performers are responsible for turning their pages. !st, 2nd and 3rd Place will be awarded in each competitions group. All three finalists perform on either the Junior Honors Recital or the Senior Honors Recital. Rankings of finalists will announced at the end of the recital and trophies are awarded. Teachers are not allowed to perform in this category. Each performer in the duet must pay the entry fee and each will receive a trophy if the duet is a finalist.

OUTSTANDING TRIOS ~ The above information applies to all Trios.

OUTSTANDING POP & JAZZ ~ Students will compete as in Outstanding Solo. Students perform one memorized piece and may perform any popular or jazz style piece, this includes syncopation, boogie-woogie, swing, or rag. Arrangements are allowed. !st, 2nd and 3rd Place will be awarded in each competition group. All three finalists perform on either the Junior Honors Recital or the Senior Honors Recital. Rankings of finalists are announced at the end of the recital and trophies are awarded.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
